San Pedro Chapel, Tucson, AZ

Tucked in amongst the cholla and creosote bush, the San Pedro Chapel is a little hidden gem in the Historic Fort Lowell neighborhood in Tucson, AZ. It was built by residents of the neighborhood in 1932 and served as their principal place of worship for decades. Although no longer used for regular worship services, this beautiful building is the site of many weddings and other events, such as neighborhood gatherings, historic lectures, art exhibits and memorials. The chapel coordinator/ fundraiser, commissioned me to do this painting. I gave the chapel permission to make their own cards and prints from this image so that they can offer a small memento to sell to visitors and guests. Featured in this painting besides the chapel are: Cactus Wren, Gambel’s Quail, desert rabbits and ground squirrel, Chain Fruit Cholla, Creosote Bush, Velvet Mesquite and Prickly Pear.
